And that was with top ranked AAC recruiting classes. So let's not get overestimate our situation. I don't know if SMU gets to 4 wins because of the injuries and not having as high level of recruiting classes as Taggert had but I do believe they will improve with what they have to work with imo.

Good point, they had a lot of impatient whiners populating their message boards as well.

and Montgomery at Tulsa won 6 games his first year, and has already won 4 games so far his second year, with very poor recruiting classes.

and Scott Frost at UCF has already won 3 games his VERY FIRST YEAR, coming off an 0-12 season.

and

and

and you can always find excuses if you look hard enough.

Dodged a bullet by not facing UCF this year, can only imagine the excuses after that one.

and

Tulane, that lowly Tulane program, with that brand new head coach, starting from scratch, already has 3 wins in their 1st 5 games this year.

Wait, what, how can that be?

I don't think Tulsa had the injury problems we have and after Dane Evans graduates they may be in trouble imo. But again, USF only won 4 games the second and only won 2 their first year with Taggert as their coach and they had better talent and less injuries.

dumbarse post of the year. Maybe if we scheduled Southern, UL-Laffy and UMass instead of Baylor and TCU we could have 3 wins by now. You really need to get over it

Look at who Tulsa has had recruiting for them in the past several years. Their base for Montgomery was a little better than what Morris walked into.

Agree Tulsa isn't a valid comparison. UCF not a good comparison either, because their recruiting and readiness didn't drop off as much as it did here under June. It was a one year collapse.

That said, we should have expected 5-6 wins coming into the season, not 3 or 4, which many were predicting. With the injuries, you obviously have to tailor that back. However, not recruiting depth at QB is on the coaches, and not recruiting impact LB (that perspective could change after the bye, we will see) is also on the coaches.

So this response really defines the excuse making on this board. First, 3 wins is 3 wins. Second, Tulane has a brand new coach, not a second year guy. Third, and most importantly, you conveniently avoid mentioning the 2 losses.

Loss number 1, to P5 Wake Forest, 7-3. Sure it's Wake Forest, but this is a 5-1 Wake team with some good wins this year.
Loss number 2, to Navy, 21-14. Yeah, that same Navy team that just beat Houston.

Dumbarse post of the year huh?

This was a universally recognized win against a lowly team with a brand new coach. Can't imagine the dumbarse excuse posts if it doesn't quite work out that way.

You really need to wake up.

Of course, nothing is a good comparison, that doesn't fit the 3-5 year rebuild narrative. Doesn't take that long. Make all the excuses you want.

Fair enough, but Montgomery inherited a team with an atrocious defense and a decent/good offense.

In year 1, he made a few minor changes and had a very good AAC offense, but a bad defense.
In year 2, most of his good offense returned.

In constrast, Morris inhereted the worst offense in D1 and an even worse defense.
Year 1: the offense improved, but the defense did not.
Year 2: the defense is improved, but injuries have stolen any chance for significant improvement on offense.

Year 3: if we are going to see improvement on the W/L front, that is when the big gains should start.

I think you have to give Chad Morris a pass this season even if we end the season with 2 wins. However, I think his job is on the line in 2017. The way I see it is bowl or bust in 2017.
