Has SMU knocked off a team ranked 11th or higher since the DP?

Any of the TCU wins in the last 15 years were bigger, but still a big accomplishment. No need to rank them though. Just enjoy tonight.

TV announcers said SMU's last win over a top 15 team was 1986.

That is what I thought. Also saw this tweet just a second ago. This was bigger than any of the TCU wins.

This was SMU’s first win vs. a top-15 team since 1986.

I'll take tonight's win over any we have had on the past few years...Baylor is next...next year.

This is the biggest win since the DP. No doubt. Beating TCU was satisfying but TCU wasn't as high ranked as Houston. Also this is mid season whereas the TCU games were very early in the seasons.
The better wins are mid and late season wins. That shows depth, mental toughness and attention to details after a long season. It is hard to beat teams late that one isn't suppose to beat cause the wear and tear by a season makes it harder for lesser teams to win.
Also, we have been beat up and playing young and inexperienced players. To gel against Houston and play this well is definitely a huge win.
Last, this win puts any team we play as a possible win. Beating TCU don't put the rest of our schedule on notice.
And we beat them with recruits in the stands. Huge boast for recruiting.

We don't play Baylor next year but tonight was program changing imo.

I would vote for JJ's team beating TCU in Ft Worth, but that was the peak of JJ's tenure at SMU and it all seemed to go downhill from there. Hopefully this win is bigger because it will lead to an uptick for Chad's program. As for Houston's # 11 ranking...does anyone really think that was the 11th best team in college football? The way they have played their last 3 games, I expect them to drop out of the Top 25 all together.

The reason I liked that win more was because we kind of expected to be good that season and actually won a meaningful game. This win was huge but if Houston continues its tailspin and we don't back it up with some more wins aside from beating Tulane next week it will lose some luster.

no question but that Houston is deflated right now and not playing like a ranked team...but if this year's team had a goal of becoming bowl eligible, they still have to win 3 of their last 5 games against some pretty stout teams. Tulane becomes a MUST win to get back to .500

TCU had lost a game that year before the played us and we're not ranked as high and were not that as good as they usually were. This win was bigger and yes apparently the people voting for them thought they were the 11th ranked team in the country since they were the same team that destroyed FSU last year and OU this year.

I'm not really worried as it doesn't even matter. Let's enjoy tonight.
