Can 5-7 teams still make bowl games if not enough 6-6 teams are available ?

whats the criteria for selecting the 5-7 teams?

My way-too-early and delusional wish list.

1. Popeyes Bahamas Bowl
2. Birmingham (vs SEC)
3. Boca Raton or St Petersburg or Miami Beach

any bowl would be way beyond my expectations for this year's team. Hope this team proves all of us naysayers wrong

my new neighbor was the back up RB to Ernie Davis at Syracuse. That won't mean much to the youngsters but the old Mustangs will appreciate that. He & I have been following our respective teams' seasons and both pretty pleased (after starting poorly) with what has happened so far this year

I think anyone can appreciate that thanks to The Express, the 2008 movie about Ernie Davis. Very cool!

Trying to tamp down expectations so I can be pleasantly surprised rather than disappointed. Don't we have to win 4 of the last 5, or would 6-6 get us in?

@ Tulane, Memphis at home, @ ECU, and USF at home I guess is our best case. Mempis will be tough, and USF is pretty good this year, but we get both at home. I've seen us get drilled by Navy too many times to be optimistic about that game.

6 wins makes you bowl eligible. you still have to be invited, depending on how many AAC teams are eligible for the bowl slots aligned to our conference

AAC has 7 designated Bowl slots and 6 teams that are pretty much locks to become eligible (already with 5-6 wins). UCF and Cincy are sitting at 4-3 and in a better position than SMU and we don't get to play either one of them. Navy and/or Houston would have to win out and hope Boise loses to get back into the New Years Bowl lineup (which could mean 8 bowl opportunities) or we would have to hope some other conference can't fill it's spots with enough eligible teams...so our guys just might have to win 7 games to get invited to a bowl. Pretty tall order given our remaining schedule and we have to maintain our sanity and remember that Houston was just one upset win! On to Tulane...
