It would be fun to pay him $1.00 a year and let UT pick up the rest.

don't think that will work. he needs to receive a reasonable salary or it could create contractual problems. (see post by stallion)
I think we need to pay 750k-1mill.
think he would do very well here but I'm sure he is going to have a number of schools pursuing him.

I was trying to be lighthearted but I guess this isn't the day for that. Of course he undoubtedly has a duty to mitigate UT's exposure.

sorry topper- too many bad things have happened this month for me to be in a 'light-hearted' mood.
Just hope we will make a decent hire and be prompt about it. We don't need to have another 'lost' recruiting class.
