He was among the Mustangs who walked on Senior Day, and thought his career at SMU was going to end with his graduation. With a year of eligibility left, guard Jerry Saena started getting offers from other schools, including programs in the Southeastern Conference and the Pac-12. But when the Mustangs begin spring workouts, Saena will be there, preparing to take the field for SMU in 2017. Saena visited with PonyFans.com to discuss his decision and his goals for the upcoming season.

This is fantastic. In the games I saw, I thought he and Brown were the best linemen on the team.
The quarterbacks and running backs have to be ecstatic.

That gives us 3 solid, experienced OLs to start. Mix in the young pups and that's potentially a great great development. I'm very comfortable with those 3, throw in Todora and Smith with Natour and Hyder in the rotation melikes. Also have Barton, Wilds, Webb. And then the freshmen who have the potential to be better than all of them can redshirt. (Maybe Huhn and Ali get thrown in if really needed due to injury, etc). Good times.

Great to have him back! I had wondered why we let him go from the team with a year of eligibility left.

Concur with this. I felt last year that Saena finally came into his own and became one of our better OLs. Was a real head-scratcher to see him walk with the seniors last year. Very, very glad to have him back. Now, if we can only add Matt D to the list of returning seniors, I'll be truly happy.

Saw him at the MBB Conference Championship game on Saturday and told him I was glad we had him back for his senior year.
