Long live the 1390

Was getting my bball season tickets payments setup and wound up on the Mustang Club website. Saw this list of M Club donors for the upcoming season as of April 1 (day after you needed to pay up for seating purposes).
The 1500 is kinda shrinking, but still basically there.

Last list I saw had one or two in the top category, so we may very well be shrinking from the top.

Have to remember the 1500 are not ALL Mustang Club members. When that phrase was originally coined (by the late "Old Mustang" Jim Crist), he was referring to the group of Mustang faithful back in the 70's & 80's who could always be counted on to attend both football and bball games, no matter how bad out teams were performing, and who could also be counted on to make a road trip or two every year (TCU/Ft Worth was a favorite and generally included dinner at Joe T Garcia's). When I lived in Dallas, I considered myself among that group and can remember bball games in the early Dave Bliss years when we went something like 6-22 or 7-21 and lost games to Rollins College in front of the 1500. Football attendance was never that low, but it was the norm for bball and that was what inspired J.C. to coin that phrase. As a bit of trivia, Crist Construction actually installed the 1st "upgraded" scoreboard in Moody and we talked way back then about how nice it would be to downsize and modernize Moody. Jim died before Ford Stadium opened but I know he enjoyed that opening game against Kansas and I'm sure he is pleased with what Moody and SMU hoops has become.

We've never had more than about 3,000 to 4,000 alumni buying season tickets because most every season ticket holder buys multiple tickets. This year SMU won't be able to hide behind mini-season ticket packages which were scooped up by A&M, TCU and Tech fans in the past

Let's just go to the games and support the team. The crowds are unlikely to ever get consistently large, and when they are large it will be because the away team brought them or they are [deleted] fair-weather Dallas fans. The 1500 and their friends will be the only ones that matter.
