probabably not Top 5. Carter wasn't even as good as All-American Harvey Armstrong at least at SMU. Rod Jones wasn't as good as John Simmons either at SMU. Putt Choate's numbers are crazy-so far above any one else at SMU- that its hard to argue. If you were going to dispute it you'd point out that guys like Choate and Michael Singletary at Baylor played in the I-Back running era when those 2 would might make as many as 30+ tackles in a game.

I would put Armstrong on there. And I can't believe Sherwood Blount isn't #1!

Sherwood was number one at something, but it wasn't defense.

Rufus is certainly on the All Academic team. As good as he was he is even smarter.

He deserves honorable mention, much like Garrett Gilbert & Zach Line.

Only post-DP players to make my list are ESanders, probably Courtland Sutton and definitely Morstead.

KO returning who set NCAA record under PB also makes Top 5 for special teams. Jesse Henderson.

Deion Sanders Jr was all-conference

I will acknowledge Jesse Henderson was good but his record was due primarily to the number of kickoffs he returned.

That is like one of our punters who set the record for most punts.

I agree that number of opportunities plays an important role but Jesse set the NCAA all-time record and that has to account for something. Longevity factor.

His 24.1 yard average is quite respectable.

Looked up Arthur Whittington, who I was going to place above him. Art returned KO's for 1 season, not 4 like Jesse. Arthur averaged 18.4 yards.

Deion averaged 21.7 yards.

NFL stars who are on the All-Time NCAA KO return list include:

Torrey Smith 24.3 yard avg
Chris Johnson ECU 23.6 yard avg
Anthony Brown 23.1 yard avg
Tavon Austin 24.8 yard avg

Jesse is in good company.
