He has only won 8 games in two plus seasons at SMU, but I have to admit that collapse probably cost Sumlin his job at A&M....

Pretty sure this post was meant for the A&M site.

That seems like a good move, if this plays out with Morris going to A&M. Sumlin is a very good coach. Before going to A&M (while at UH) he was a very desired coach for many P-5 schools. Morris would leave good foundation from what I can see. Given Sumlins background, he would be a good fit. If you could get him? Still a little early though.
FWIW, Peavy seemed to be your best QB. He seems to have good instincts for the game.

Sumlin would be interesting if it comes to that.
The Houston coaches like Herman and Sumlin have all failed at the next level. Briles had some success obviously by cheating and letting players continually break the law with the support of the school.
You would think stuff like that would make A&M think twice about going for another American coach, but they don't think normally down there.

Texas A&M will not fire their 8 win a season in the SEC coach to bring in an 8 wins in his head coaching career coach. It doesn't matter how much Chad wants the job, he ain't getting it.

At least offer a rational estimate of what it would cost aTm to fire Sumlin and hire CM AND what it would cost someone for SMU to hire Sumlin before his contract is over.
Not sayin' they are rational in College Station though.

It will cost A&M 11M to buy out Sumlin and 5M to buy out Morris. That is a ton of money. They can obviously afford it, but... its a lot of money.
Chip Kelly doesn't fit the A&M profile. Les Miles does. If they buy Sumlin out this year, my bet would be that they go for a free agent to replace him.

Just wondering, where did you got those Morris buyout numbers?

I don't think that 5 Million amount is correct. A "buyout clause" in a Coaches contract is usually a separately negotiated amount-not simply the remaining salary on the Coach's contract. Reportedly it was 3 Million when he was talking to Baylor-but Morris has signed a contract since then. Also, a buyout clause can include exceptions for certain schools

If we got to the point where Morris left for another job and at that time Sumlin was available, SMU should do everything in its power to get him. He would be a homerun hire.

There's more than Sumlin out there. If Morris wins enough to get that job the coaching community will see that you can win at SMU and we pay well plus the natural recruiting base in dfw. Very desirable destination

Sumlin has to complete a tour at the Sabin rehab center for failed coaches first.
If Chad wins his way back to Aggieland I hope he has the same type of relationship Coach Spurrier has with Duke with SMU.
For now, Chad has a big job to finish. Scott Satterfield should be on speed dial just in case...
