One Thing is for sure

Unlike our last hire, where we pretty much all felt SMU hit it out of the park, this one will come with lots of doubts.
Graham - a mercenary's mercenary
Orlando - can he recruit and does his DC skill translate to HC
Sumlin - others have outlined the risks.
Traylor - three years total college experience? Really?
Who am I missing?

Three years of college experience - not required.
Exhibit: Gerry Faust - zero years of college experience. Oh well, good try...

What about Coach Cumbie at TCU?

I have no idea why Cumbie hasn't been picked up yet.

Cumbie would be my favorite on the list, just haven't heard anything on him related to this job.

He’s probably tired of all the past years that he and Patterson has been helping us

If it’s Dykes, TCU will be helping. He was a consultant with them last season

Just read Dykes bio.....as I hadn't followed him very closely, although I do remember him turning down the bowl game at La Tech and never getting picked up by another one (9-3 LaTech stayed home that year). Offensive style of Mummy and Leach, but really bad defenses and must not be able to recruit consistently as couldn't ever sustain a winning season at any program as HC. - I'd like to think we can do better, but who knows.

Aside from his last season at Cal, his teams all got better every season. I think his issues at Cal stemmed from the fact that he went outside his geographical footprint. Unless someone can give sound reasoning for not hiring him I would be on board.

Hasn't been anywhere long enough (more than 3 years) to tell if he can recruit, win consistently and sustain momentum.

And he has had dumpster fire defenses every where he went (a by-product of the offense to some extent) and he has had conflict/issues holding onto assistant coaches.....again if that's the best we can do so be it, but won't get excited if they hire him.

I would think an improved won loss record each season is a sign of improved recruiting but maybe I’m wrong.

Eh. Every coach has a question mark. Jones had no geographical ties and Morris had no HC experience on a collegiate level.
Just gotta pick one and do everything you can to help them win.
