Incoming Transfers and Grad Transfers

Two bad we were two days late on this former 4 star QB from Cal...headed to UNLV:

https://lasvegassun.com/news/2017/dec/10/unlv-gains-commitment-from-jc-quarterback-who-star/

Max Gilliam: He was a four-star recruit in 2016 out of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and enrolled early at Cal — that gave him enough credits to become a midyear junior college transfer after one season at Saddleback.

At Thousand Oaks, he completed 72-percent of his passes for 6,333 yards and 69 touchdowns in his final two seasons. He also rushed for 1,291 yards and 22 touchdowns.

Wonder who Dykes might have in the hopper as a possible transfer or Grad transfer?

Would think there might be some TCU backups on Defense that could cross the metroplex and get serious playing time as starters...Gary Patterson, lil more help over here!

Good Point...my guess is that Dykes was involved in recruiting him - and he left Cal around the time Dykes left...

(and another positive - if you can get into Cal, my guess is that you should be able to get into SMU)

We don't need an upperclassman QB to compete with Hicks and Gillins. We need young guys who will be ready to take over when they leave.

Unless they're great athletes and we can convert them to be LB's....with that thought let's bulk up Gillins and convert him to a weak-side backer.

We could use a young QB.
1) Peavey could decide to transfer before the Fall in search of PT; and
2) Gillins could decide to transfer to FCS before the Fall in search of PT. Either way, both of them will be gone after the 2018 season.

That leaves Upshaw and whoever we bring in this year to back up and/or compete with Hicks after the 2018 season.

yeah I'm now hoping that some QBs leave so we can find one that really fits his system other than Hicks. I'm concerned the other 4 in pipeline don't really fit

Right but I think the Baylor fella is goin to take starting QB dibs. He would be Ben Hicks back up easily. If we can find a freshman/Sophomore transfer, sure.

Also while Hicks has turned into a pretty nice college QB, he isn't the second coming of Peyton Manning. If we can get better at any position, I'm for it.
