Rich Phillips named play-by-play voice of SMU football, replacing Mark Followill

Rich Phillips, sports director at KTCK-AM (1310 The Ticket), has been named the play-by-play voice of SMU football. Phillips replaces Mark Followill, who was hired as the radio play-by-play man of the Dallas Mavericks in July.

Phillips currently serves as an anchor and reporter for KTCK in addition to his sports director duties. He also provided play-by-play on the station's high school football broadcasts for three years (1996-98).

"I am excited about the opportunity that SMU has presented me with," said Phillips. "I am looking forward to being affiliated with such a fine university that has great athletic heritage. It will certainly be a highlight of my professional career."

Phillips will team with second-year color man Craig Swann in the broadcast
booth with Jimmy Christopher, in his third season on the SMU crew, providing
sideline reports. All SMU football broadcasts can be heard in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex on KTCK-AM.

Phillips will debut when the Mustangs open the 2001 season against Louisiana
Tech on Sept. 1 in Shreveport, La. All SMU radio broadcasts begin with a pregame show 30 minutes prior to kickoff.
