SB nation has consistently had the best previews of the preseason CFB analysis'. Seems to be hopeful for SMU and for Sonny guiding us:

I read this a few days back and agree they do some great analysis.

I know we lose big pieces in Trey and Courtland, but defense will be better and we still have plenty of playmakers on offense (Hicks/Jones/West/Proche) and the O line will most likely be better.

Schedule is tougher, but if we can beat those 'middle of the road' AAC teams like Tulsa, etc, we might just have a punchers chance to get to a bowl.

I had not realized that Putt's son Gerrit is on the roster until I read the SB article. I went back and saw JasonB's take on spring practice which mentions him as a potential DE and/or LB. I'm GLAD there is another Choate who will be playing defense for SMU.

I hope the SID soon will expand his page in SMUMUSTANGS.

So in their estimation, a winning season (7-5) is dependent on our winning 4 road games. That would be an impressive 1st year accomplishment for Sonny and his staff.

Choate was all over the field in the spring game

Putt nearly died after the interception return against Tulane in 1977. 101 yards off a deflection. I watched him come over to the sideline red-faced, and then vomit and collapse against the bench, all while being pounded by happy Mustangs.

He held our defense together that year by sheer grit. GREAT player.

So true, and the key away games will be UNT and Tulane. Both will be extra pumped up to whip us. All may depend on Kevin Kane and his troops, and of course an improving Hicks.

NTSU Dink Em and Dunk Em against current CUSA defenses. Hmmmmmmm.
It's a good system for them to rack up yards though gotta admit. SMU went for bigger plays with Hicks to get lower percentage but .64 yards more per completion.

The only thing I can think of is "New to Chad" because the stadium is older than his coaching tenure.

Arkansas recently upgraded their stadium..spent a lot of millions for an additional 3000 seats for the big donors.
