You are not going to get Hicks placed above the UCF kid and I cannot think of anyone else at SMU deserving of first team placement.

Would be nice if someone steps up this year and is recognized as an all-conference performer at the end of the year

There are some opportunities for the Mustangs: i.e. Kid from Notre Dame, kick returner comes to mind. Proche could certainly break out and X. Jones as well. Linebacker from A$M on defense looks like a beast.

I realize we are a 2nd tier FB program that cannot compete against P5, but against our peers, to only have 2 players in the Top 30 is insightful.

Most of these Top 30 kids were recruited while cm was at SMU.

chadster was always the highest paid HC in the AAC.

Should one outlet’s preseason list really carry much weight?

We will have a good read on our players after the preseason games, but it will be interesting to see how many CM recruits are on The American postseason team.

Agree - remember Shake was the AAC pre-season player of the year - what would you prefer?

But, but, we didn't have an IPF.

If that's the case, maybe we should have paid for an IPF instead of on giving money away to JJ and overpaying Chad...

There are 12 teams in the conference, so 2.5 top 30 players per team if they were evenly distributed. Is it really surprising to only have 2?

Quit bringing logic into a perfectly good rant about guys who don't coach for SMU anymore

That's certainly one way to view this. Accept mediocrity to slightly below mediocrity.

That certainly has been the performance of this program during the past 10 years. Overall, we are 35-46 in conference play over the past 10 years.

4 years of winning seasons in conference play, 4 years of losing seasons and 2 years of .500 play.

Now you seem to be ignoring the fact that we are one of 4 schools located in prime recruiting areas, that some of our conference mates are truly dreadful (multiple have actually discussed disbanding FB altogether) and that more importantly, I suspect that in EACH of the past 10 years, our HC has been the highest paid HC in the conference. I also suspect versus some schools we have paid over $10M more for our HC's than our competitors.

But whatever.

I do know this. If I was the President of this university, it would have been a very hard sell for me to authorize that IPF. I would also want to have a very real understanding of the financial impact on this university if SMU was a member of the Big East instead of the AAC.

So how many of the top 30 players in the conference do you think SMU “should” have?
