That was ugly to read, but has some merit I guess. Let's hope the guys read it and prove him wrong. We'll know a lot more after that first game. Should be a shoot-out.

Remember how under PB we gave up tons of long plays to the house on busted coverages and missed assignments? And how that ended under Mason?

I expect we will see the same impact from Kane of Van Malone.

If we go 4-8 by losing to UNT, Tulane, and Tulsa, then yes, recruiting under Morris was way less than we all thought or expected.

That said, any write-up that forecasts SMU to lose to the three teams above but somehow beat Navy has to be taken with a grain of salt... I know it is a home game, but come on. If you are thinking we are going to be that bad, there is no way we beat Navy.

Chad was only a couple plays from going 4-8 in 2017, actually.

That call in the Tulane game, could have very easily gone Tulane's way. If it had, the used car salesman finishes with a 500 record and more importantly, we are still stuck with him at SMU.

If we manage to win 6, or 7 games this year, it would be a huge accomplishment

considering all the holes Hog Man left for us.

We have a coach who wants to be here for the first time in years. We have a coach who is filling holes that he feels need to be. We are recruiting at a level to be competitive in our conference which is a rarity. I for one am looking forward to progress.

Progress may not be in total wins due to the schedule, but I for one am choosing to look forward and not dwell on the past 10 years.

You are forcing me to look forward to Jason’s sunshine posts. I am not there yet, but how about we at least watch a game before giving up.

I haven't been as optimistic about a new coach since Forrest Gregg, and Sonny is in a different world as far as the players he can recruit.

I am very optimistic about Sonny Dykes as well, he seems sincere about wanting to be here. We all knew the previous guy, never bothered to unpack his suitcases. If Sonny can put enough duct tape on this inherited roster, to win six games, it would be a true testament to the coaching ability he and his staff have done.

Just beat UNT to start the season and I will be pleased. I won't melt down (like I expect so many to) if we lose that one, but barring significant improvement during the season, I don't see this team getting 6 wins if they lose that opener. Too many of our "easier" opponents on the road this year and I don't have to check our post death penalty road record to know that's not a favorable schedule. I've said it before and will say it once again...Chad Morris has done a masterful job of managing his career.

I know, that was my point. How can they predict us to beat Navy based on past history and then have us losing to UNT, Tulane, and Tulsa. That in itself is very contradictory.

Chad managed his career and got the O running well. We have a real, full team coach, as Mrydel states, is filling gaps left by man hog. My heart says one thing and my brain says this is going to take a season to get rolling.

4 wins or 7 wins. I'm grateful to have Sonny Dykes and staff here. See you all in Denton.
