Probably not a good thing that a former SMU player was handing out cash improperly. They will must likely punish us for having developed the environment in which he played college ball.

Really disappointed in reading that story. I know Bear Bryant ran that type of program, but that's not what college athletics should be about any more...

Sad stuff, and even sadder they won't get in any trouble for it.

Obviously trying to run the kid off..... but they didn’t get the memo that if you air the dirty laundry you might save the transfer year.
Oops!
It won’t amount to anything.... suspend a few coaches maybe.... mea culpa press release....
But programs will have to be more careful with their internal cheating when a kid has an incentive to turn them in to get a transfer waiver...

Have you not been paying attention? This is SOP at top SEC and other schools. It never went away.

Agree with mrydel. We are gonna get screwed over this. No way A$M gets anything more than an 'attaboy' from the NCAA.

"It’s quite possible Marchiol’s account might otherwise not have come to light. He did not contact the NCAA. He included the allegations as part of a statement he sent to the compliance office at Arizona, where Sumlin is the coach and Marchiol is enrolled and practicing with the football team, in his request for an NCAA waiver that would allow him to play instead of sitting out the upcoming season."
Surprised the Chad did not try this tactic out to find a way to get Xavier or Proche or someone else he recruited to Arky with immediate eligibility. If they allow Marchiol to play immediately, then the floodgates could open - the accusations would not even have to be true as the player would be able to benefit prior to the investigation or accusations being proven false.

this is playing wildly on the Battered Aggie Syndrome this morning...sports radio station is predicting doom and gloom, even before the season kicks off.
The kid is also being labeled everything from a malcontent to a snitch....other Aggies are all upset at Sumlin, speculation that he had something to do with this revelation.
Time to lawyer up...Stallion?

So Chad would rat on himself to get players to his new school?

No - all it would take would be for a player to make something up about current staff to gain immediate eligibility at another school. That is my point - does not even need to be true. You would have to assume that Sumlin is behind this maneuver - which is quite shady. Knowing the NCAA, could take years to find out the truth.

I agree that it is sad , Jason. I have followed college football in Texas avidly since the late 50's...yes I'm an old fart.
The aggies have always believed in winning at all costs , yet for the majority of these 50-60 years they have been very
mediocre, if not downright losers. The few winning periods of time always seem to coinside with "Cheater Coaches"
like Bryant , Jackie Sherrill, R.C. Slocum (aka "Jackie's Bag Man"), etc.

I think you are right about that. Meanwhile, I don't expect much to come of this other than for this kid to be branded a malcontent who couldn't cut it at A$M. When I think back on how many schools were "eligible" for the death penalty after we were shut down (A$M and other SEC schools were on that list) and for nothing to have happened...oh well, it helps to be a brand name in the dirty world of NCAA athletics.
