SMU football head coach Sonny Dykes met the media Friday to discuss a number of topics, including the new SMU football billboards around the Dallas area, how many freshmen he expects will play in 2019, and how the team's incoming transfers can help the program.

Not only is the team improving, but Sonny sounds so much more comfortable with his interviews. It is very noticeable that he believes he now has a team that can be competitive and there is a direction for recruiting and promotion.

I really enjoy Sonny's interviews. I liked Chad, but Sonny is just so "tell it like it is" by comparison. Chad's hyper enthusiasm seemed artificial at times and clearly he always saw SMU as a stepping stone. I get the impression Sonny just might be content to build this program into a championship/top 25 caliber program and have a long stay and retire here.
Without a doubt , the best football coaching hire since Forrest Gregg !

There were plenty of naysayers when Sonny was hired. Wonder whether that group is coming around or they still think this hire was a mistake?

I for one was a little skeptical at the time of the hire - that changed when I heard him speak of his goals and was convinced it was a good hire after his first recruiting class - I now believe he will take us to championship status - not only is he a good coach and a wonderful person - he knows how to recruit - how to hire outstanding coaches and maybe more important he wants to be here
