When should we expect to see a depth chart?

When the players trot out on the field on August 31. Anything prior to that wont be completely accurate.

The school will distribute something a few days before the opener, but if past seasons are any indication, it won't resemble what rolls out on the field Aug. 31 very closely.

In the NFL, teams are required to give them out. In college, it's not required. I can't figure out why anyone would put one out if not required, and if they are, why by honest? I'd be listing Buechele at nose tackle, Demerick Gary at quarterback, and line up all of the kickers on the offensive line. Preseason depth charts aren't worth the paper on which they are printed.

Why not? If the formation is the same, are you really going to change your game plan because a frosh beat someone out for a starting spot? I wouldn't give away injury concerns, but that is about it.

Going into the first game, most coaches look at what you did last year, practice anticipating a similar scheme, and focus their game plan on areas you struggled with last year and then anticipated areas you might struggle in based on graduation.

Of course, this year, with the number of transfers and waivers, I bet we don't know about a lot of the players' eligibility until late on. So, anything produced is going to be more inaccurate than other years. There is a reason why Sonny is cutting off media sessions early this season; he doesn't want anyone to know who is available and who isn't.

I prefer this depth chart strategy.
