Sanders Named Player Of The Week, Jones Earns Honor Roll Nod

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (The American/SMU) – After a 98-yard kickoff touchdown return that helped the Mustangs to a 37-30 victory over Arkansas State, CJ Sanders was named the American Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, conference officials announced Monday.

It was the fourth career kickoff return touchdown for Sanders, who is tied for second among active FBS players in the category, and it tied him for eighth at SMU for the longest kickoff return. Overall, Sanders finished with three returns for 133 yards.

Senior Xavier Jones was named to the weekly honor roll, finishing with 18 carries for 56 yards and a career-high tying three touchdowns.

The three touchdowns gives Jones his seventh-career multi-rush touchdown game, and places him eighth at SMU with 25-career rushing touchdowns and 11th with 2,216 career rushing yards.

SMU hosts North Texas on Saturday at 6 p.m. on ESPN3.
