Besides, there's this one line:

"No one settles for SMU because they couldn’t get in to Texas or Oklahoma. You go there because you want to go there"

Overall it really is not a bad read. Can’t argue with any of it.

Has USF ever won anything?

When they first moved into FBS they skyrocketed to a pretty high level. Coach Leavitt took them to a #2 ranking. They faltered a little and then Leavitt was fired for supposedly hitting a player. They started a downhill slide and have never fully recovered.

Its been a long time since we were relevant in the football scene. I know we've had some moments in soccer, 3 Final Four appearances, Golf and Tennis, but that doesn't count in Texas. Football is where you get braggin' rights. So, we have finally gotten some swagger. Let's go out and beat USF this week and keep the line moving. If we start winning, we will develop fans. We had a generation of fans from the Doak Walker, Kyle Rote, Ray Berry, Dandy Don era, but they're now using walkers or dead. We had some fans from the Pony Express Era, but that was soon followed by the death penalty and they wandered away. So, hopefully things will be Sonny on the Hilltop and we'll get some new fans.

Interesting they had to write an article explaining our incredible history of sucking. Tell us something we don't know....

Also confused someone from USF downgrading athletics at another institution. Acting like they have the success of Texas.

Beating Texas in Austin in ‘80 AND ‘82 was - and always will be - glorious.

And destroying them at Texas Stadium in ‘85. But you’re off-message in that precious few folks under 50 remember those...

I think that's why the fan 'under age of 50' was pointed out, since the earliest you could have attended SMU to experience your fandom was the mid-to late 80's.

That being said, I very much enjoyed the Cotton Bowl against Pitt, the TU beatdowns, and the Pony Express as a 10 to 13yo, and my memories of those teams will never fade.

I’m very appreciative of USF giving us some nice bulletin-board material for this game...
