Buechele Named AAC Offensive Co-Player Of The Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AAC/SMU) – Junior Shane Buechele was named the American Athletic Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday.

Buechele helped lead the Mustangs to a 48-21 win over USF on Saturday to secure a No. 24 spot in the AP Poll and a 5-0 record to start the season. It is the first ranking for the Mustangs since 1986, and the first 5-0 start since 1983.

The Arlington, Texas, native threw for 226 yards and three touchdowns, while adding five carries for 27 yards and a score. The three passing touchdowns tied his season high, giving him 10 for the season, and also gave him four straight games with multiple passing TDs.

Buechele was 13-of-13 to open the game, good for second on SMU's all-time consecutive completions list.

For his performance, he was also named to Davey O'Brien's Great 8 List and a Manning Award Star of the Week.

Rodney Clemons was also honored by the conference as a Weekly Honor Roll selection. Clemons had a career-high two interceptions to bring his season total to three. He also added four tackles, including one for loss.
