I don’t think I can watch, but if anyone does, curious for your take. The lead quote is bad enough:

"SMU wants to be Dallas' team. I don't know if they can ever be that, but I know they can make Saturdays on the Hilltop the fun place to be again."

Definitely not an SMU homer piece, but a pretty fair portrayal. He basically states that for SMU to be embraced as Dallas' team we would need to be in the Big XII, which is probably true if we want to have next level attendance, ie 45,000 average.

Dale did UT’s bidding long ago hoping it would propel him into the national scene. 33 years later he’s still on local news. Good for him.

It definitely is a homer piece for Dale Hansen who brought down SMU because of his outstanding moralistic reporting. He wants SMU to emulate Baylor, a team he holds out as doing it the right way. What a stupid, narcissistic little piece of fecal matter.

I can't help thinking of Paul Simon's old ballad "Still crazy after all these years" when I think of Dale Hansen.

Intrepid reporter? No.

Curmudgeon? Hack? Getting closer..

I hand carried evidence of UT violations and presented them to him. He was not interested. I sent the same info to David Berst of the NCAA and his only reply was that their violations were not as egregious as SMU so they were not interested either.

There were several instances of players I knew, and I am too old to recall, but the most evident, which was certainly not exclusive to me, was the kid (I want to say Edwin Simmons) who was taken into a western store by an assistant coach, put on some cowboy boots and walked out. If I recall, the coach paid for the boots and said he had intended to get the money back from Simmons who had accidentally forgotten to pay. But the coach forgot to get the money back.

When I communicated with Berst I mentioned that event and he said it did not rise to the level of an infraction. If you go back and dig up when UT was put on probation later for other violations, that event was included in the report so apparently it did meet the standard but was just kind of shoved under the table at the time it happened.

He has always been a terrible person. Now he is not even any good at his job. They should show him the door.

I wish they would hurry up and can his [donkey]. I always liked channel 8 news, but just can not stomach Hansen. I have not watch their news since the death penalty, and will not watch until Dale is gone.

I have not seen him for about 40 years live or on tv so I cannot speak to his talent, but in talking with him it does not take long to determine he is one arrogant man.

The Chicken Ranch had Zindler and SMU has Hansen.

You would think he would be grateful to SMU, apparently that "reporting" in 1987 into SMU won him a distinguished award. Of course, he failed to investigate all the other schools in the State that were also paying players.

"In 1987, Hansen was honored with the George Foster Peabody Award for Distinguished Journalism. That same year, he won the duPont-Columbia Award for his contribution to the investigation of SMU's football program. As a result of this investigation, the NCAA prohibited SMU from fielding a football program in 1987."

From the new station's website, apparently the db never event went to college.

Who are you? Hansen: "I'm just a small town guy from Logan, Iowa ... never went to college ... have had 11 jobs in my life and been fired from 9 of 'em ... but I am that person who always believes there's a better day coming ... so I never give up."
