...SMU and TCU can’t both be good at the same time? The degree to which one is good is the degree to which the other is bad, almost. It seems to have been true for a long time. And in both football and basketball.

I think the whole thing is just for schadenfreude at how bad their fans think they are.
And the entire premise of this thread is disproven by the mid 1930s. (Kidding!)

TCU became respectable and borderline competitive for two or three years before we got the DP. After that, for many years, we couldn't recruit the same kids we were used to getting and a lot of them went to TCU. They got good. Then they leapfrogged (pun intended) us in conference, twice. We are just recently doing a pretty good job overcoming that obstacle when it comes to a certain kind of player that in the old days probably would choose us over them.
