Bentley IV Recognized On FWAA Freshman All-American Watch List
DALLAS (FWAA/SMU) – Ulysses Bentley IV was named to the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-American Watch List, the organization announced Tuesday.
The redshirt-freshman ranks second nationally in rushing touchdowns (8), fourth in total touchdowns (8), sixth in rushing yards (506), seventh in total points scored (48) and eighth in yards per carry (6.84).
Bentley IV posted back-to-back 100-yard games against UNT and SFA, registering 227 yards and three touchdowns off 19 carries against UNT, and 104 yards and two touchdowns off six attempts against SFA. The 227 yards against UNT were the fourth-most in a single game in SMU history, and are the most by a player in the American Athletic Conference this season by 55 yards.
He scored his first seven TDs in the opening three games of the season, which tied for the sixth most in a three-game span at SMU.
The AAC has twice named him to the Weekly Honor Roll (Sept. 28, Sept. 21) and the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award also recognized him on Sept. 22.
This year's FWAA Freshman All-American team will represent the 20th since its inception and feature a list of 7 semifinalists and 3 finalists later this season leading up to the unveil of the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year.
No. 16 SMU hosts No. 9 Cincinnati Saturday at 8 p.m. on ESPN2.
