Mustangs Selected For Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl
FRISCO, Texas (SMU) – SMU has accepted an invitation to play in the 2020 Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl, Executive Director Sean Johnson announced Wednesday. The game will be played Saturday, Dec. 19, at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas, and will be televised on ESPN2 at a time to be determined. An opponent will be named at a later date and will likely be from Conference USA.
"We are excited to extend an invitation to SMU to play in the Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl," said Executive Director Sean Johnson. "We are happy to have a local team with a great fan base and look forward to an exciting game next week at Toyota Stadium."
The Mustangs finished the regular season 7-3, and were ranked as high as No. 16 in both the AP and Coaches Polls. SMU opened the season 5-0, giving them consecutive 5-0 starts for the first time since the 1982-83 seasons, and have won seven games in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the 2011-12 seasons.
This is SMU's third bowl appearance in four seasons, and second consecutive that they have clinched under Head Coach Sonny Dykes. This will be the 18th bowl appearance overall for the Mustangs, with SMU holding a 7-9-1 all-time record. It is SMU's second appearance in the Frisco Bowl (2017).
The Mustangs are looking for their first bowl win since the 2012 Hawai'i Bowl when they defeated Fresno State, 43-10.
Tickets to the Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl are not currently on sale to the public. COVID-19 protocols will be in place and any tickets that may be made available will be very limited.
