OH MY GOD! BLASPHEMY! THE GALL of the GREEN!

But here is why:

The intense feelings on these smack boards (which are pretty good indicators I'd bet) that both school's fans/alums/students have toward each other that (IMO) yall lost with other ex-SWC schools the last decade or so. Just look what TCU has done to ya' (once again) and some of your most loyal still want to cower down, kiss their butts and play them?!?!?:(

Even Phil Bennett knew what was going on back last Fall when TCU was turning their backs on yall (again) with the TCU/MWC deal 'a-cookin' and wanted to permanently remove the Frogs from your schedule. Right now, though, none of you are listening to him because of his overall W/L record. But if he had had a winning record, I'd bet some of you would have jumped on his "Kick TCU Off The Schedule" bandwagon like a Roman mob gone wild.

BUT....beggin' some pardons to some of you SMU'ers, yall have become almost too "pal'sie-wal'sie" with some of your ex SWC mates and that does not cause your people to dislike them enough to buy tickets en mass to want to watch your Mustangs (appropriately) kick their [deleted]. Rivalries are created from "athletic oriented" hate--not kissin' cousin get-togethers.

Rivalries truly dislike each other. They loathe each other. They want to show up each other. They want to annihilate each other. They want that school to call them uh, DADDY ?

Right now, I'd pay $100 for a ticket, battle your ridiculous N. Dallas traffic, try to find a parking place on your campus just to watch our MEAN GREEN kick your team's butt into the next decade (but in a Christian sort of way, of course). Bet I know 15,000 other UNT'ers who'd feel the same way--hell, we traveled that many to a bowl game 9 hours away (by car) so do you think that many could find their way to Gerald D. Ford Stadium?

Mean, why do you all want to join a conference with SMU? I mean you NT fans are all over the Net disparaging SMU whereever and whenever you can. I imagine CUSA is looking for a partner who can contribute and hold to quality academic standards. I'm not sure thats a good fit for UNT and vice versa, even though Id like to see some relaxing of SMUs academic reqs.

First of all, if I had one inkling of an idea that smack boarders were going to be influential on who comes into CUSA, my keyboard would be most stationary; but I have it on good authority that those on any of these collegiate smack boards will not have a dime's worth of influence in any of this; but in UNT's case with SMU--does it even really matter, because how do we ever lose what we don't have?

There is no more disparagement of SMU'ers by Mean Greeners than we get from you OR what others say about either of us. After all, this is a collegiate "smack" board environment, right? And, yall should be glad to talk re-alignment and the dissing of UNT or whoever because it takes most of your attention from your FB team's W/L record of last Fall and the ones before that. CUSA realigment talk and "we've always got UNT to diss" has all but been a godsend for some of you who post on PonyFans.com.

BUT, UNT--NOT A GOOD FIT? Did TCU think SMU was a good fit for CUSA? AND....the "Thundering Herd" of Marshall U are a good fit? How about those Pirates of East Carolina--perfect bedfellows for the 'Stangs? I guess those 2 CUSA's school's main advantages are that they are not located in SMU's shadows, right? Doesn't that just about size it up with all these UNT/SMU discussions most every time? Its more about border wars than really the old "commuter school/teacher's college" card? Any suggestions on how to disband a public university campus approaching 32,000 students and 100,000 plus North Texas Exes in the Metroplex?

STILL....NOT A GOOD FIT, YOU SAY? But U of HOUSTON OR TEXAS TECH were? You can talk about NORTH TEXAS all you want, but yall never had a problem playing schools such as UH (who yall unmercifully called Cougar High to this day or Texas Tech of whom I have no idea what name yall have for the Red Raiders. BUT....IF this is about academic entrance standards (and we both know it really is not) you may want to check out the entrance requirements of UNT, TTech and UH because they're almost identical.

But back to the subject matter of this thread: I expected the usual responses from the usual SMU posters (so what else is new)? Yet you can bet your sweet bippy there are many more lurkers (from SMU) who are not even registed on this board reading these posts. And because of the SMU alums I've met thru the years and knowing their own feelings, I would say there are just as many who agree with my subject matter than don't. The further away you get from Mockingbird Lane in University Park, Texas, you tend to get such attitudes in the Metroplex.

I think SMU came up with "The North Texas Attitude" in the modern era of the NCAA which started in the 1950's. It was in the 1950's that UNT first integrated Texas with Abner Haynes and that crescendoed well into the 1960's with the Mean Joe Greene era. Strangely enough, there were no SMU/UNT games scheduled in either decade.

According to some old nestors I've spoken to, UNT wanted some games with SMU back then, but instead of talking about a schedule with UNT, some from SMU chose to divert to other non-football related subjects and reasons for the 2 local schools to not tee it up. Of course, none of those diversions could have possibly been because of the UNT/Abner Haynes era of the 1950's which culminated with a Sun Bowl appearance; or the Mean Joe Greene era group of the 1960's who were winning conference championships against present upper echelon schools of today's CUSA; in fact, with the very ones heading to to the Big East.

CUSA has divisions...Pirates and Herd are out East.

UNT does nothing for SMU. That's why. If we lose, we look bad. If we win, so what.

UL and Cincy are mid-level CUSA defections...so what.

Sorry, but I would rather see Temple, UTEP, La. Tech, Miami OH, Toledo, or Bowling Green. Why? Temple and the Ohio schools make for a better life for the northeastern arm of CUSA, and would move USM into our division. UTEP brings the potential of the Sun Bowl or at least an unused slot in the Sun Bowl, lots of fans and a tradition in basketball. UTEP got TCU a Sun Bowl slot and look what it did for them. La. Tech has a nationally ranked women's basketball team. They are centrally located and could help Tulane as a travel partner. UNT would be only considered if the others rejected us. Go look at the WAC, I think there will be openings there. Fresno, Hawaii, Boise are certainly upgrades from a steady diet of ULM, ULL, ARKLR, etc. The downside, travel stinks.

And by reading most of the reasoning on collegiate smack boards is why there will be a committee of (hopefuly) CUSA charter member presidents who will visit each interested campus who want to be (and stay) in CUSA.

Come on, SMU, if TCU led the way for the MWC officials to call yall tomorrow, how soon would it take yall to leave CUSA? Of course, by the time you'd get into the MWC, TCU would have "high-tailed" it to some other league the way things have gone lately with the Frogs.

La Tech is having financial problems and the state of Louisiana is having to bale them out. Their athletic budget in the WAC is already under $10,000,000.oo. Can they even afford CUSA? Really, think about that.

A CUSA move to the North or East, ie, the MAC will have 2 (maybe 3) southern-based CUSA public universities looking for something else from what I've read on some other boards. Yet most of the MAC schools mentioned by "posters" are not interested in CUSA, at least from a few quotes from their MAC administrators they are not.

And you suggest UNT for the WAC? Why would North Texas want what SMU does not want? Sloppy...well, nevermind, but 2'nd hand Rose you suggest for the Mean Green ? No way.... Our officials are not interested in going back to the West. Been there--done that with some of your present WAC schools such as Boise and Nevada when we were all in the old Big West.

Actually, UNT doesn't need to do anything right now as La Tech; but UNT is in a league that we can win and go to a CUSA bowl already, albeit sponsored and hosted by the SBC.

We obviously think we have some proven reasons as to why we would make a good fit in CUSA. All of our facilties will soon match (maybe exceed) most or all in CUSA once they are finished.

I am sorry I went balistic on a previous post but I don't get it with some of your alums/fans who can accept a San Jose, Marshall, St. Mary's Sisters of the Unfortunate and others with less academic standards and much less to bring to the table than UNT, yet we still (from some quarters at SMU) get the same tired old reasons that may have been right 60 years ago, but, Jeez, this is a different era for everyone. Surely some of you know that many outside of UNT don't buy into some of your reasonings as well, right?

One response, we will not nor ever follow TCU to the MWC. We know that the MWC teams do nothing for us, except cost us money. They will never ever be a BCS conference. We knew what the Frogs might be, but they clearly proved it this time, when they jumped back into bed with the most treacherous bunch (except maybe UT, Ark. and A&M) that exists in Division 1-A. The sad fact for the Frogs is when the MWC folks get tired of their new plaything, they will make life very unhappy for the Froggies.

MeanGreenGem, by your own definition of a rivalry being a relationship driven by HATE, you should be estatic that most posters on here are just plain nasty to you. In essence by your own definition, there already is a rivalry of sorts in place. Now all that needs to be done is move it on to the field. The decision of who get's into which conference is out of our hands and yours. I believe that before it is all over, whether as conference mates or not, we will move this hate fest to a playing field. Maybe not tomorrow, but at some point down the road...so enjoy the hate...it's just natural.
