WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (NCFAA/SMU) – Blake Mazza is one of 30 student-athletes listed on the Lou Groza Watch List to open the 2021 season. The award is presented annually to the top collegiate football place-kicker by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.
One of 20 previous semifinalists for the award on the 2021 list, Mazza was a finalist in 2019 and was on the list in 2020. He was also an All-Pac-12 honorable mention selection and a Second-Team All-Pac-12 honoree by the Associated Press in 2020 and a conference first-team selection in 2019.
During a shortened 2020 season at Washington State, Mazza went 4-for-4 on field goal attempts and 12-for-12 on PATs.
In 2019, Mazza was 20-21 on field goals and 55-57 on PATs. As a freshman he went 10-15 on FGs and 60-62 on PATs.
He opens the season on Athlon Sports, Phil Steele Magazine and Pro Football Focus All-AAC teams.
Accomplishments are tabulated throughout the season and 20 semifinalists will be announced on Nov. 4. From this list, a panel selects the top three finalists for the award, announced on Nov. 23. The winner will be announced on Dec. 9 during The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.
