They are alleging that ESPN is attempting to get “3-5” Big 12 teams to join the AAC!

Poor B12. When the super conferences (SEC and AAC) team up to bring you down, what chance do you have?

ESPN can save a lot of $$$ if the Big XII implodes and they are no longer obligated to pay those broadcast rights for what would be a much less attractive product if Texas and OU leave before the current deal expires in 4 years. They could negotiate a much less costly deal with a reconstituted AAC so I agree this case could have merit.

Ironic in that we all know that the Big XII was dreamed up by DeLoss Dodds and the TV programmers. Now it has collapsed due to the same greed that caused the SWC to collapse. On this point, I haven't seen any network seriously attempt to cultivate a TV market for schools like ours that are small or located in major pro sports towns. I suppose ESPN and Fox have determined that college football should consist of a handful of perennial powers rather than a system that encourages widespread participation.

So wait, you are telling me that there are two results - one is the downfall of the Big 12, and the other is hurting ESPN? Sounds like a win-win scenario to me.

I suspect its probably a little murky. I suspect what Aresco did was that once word on the streets hit that UT and OU were leaving, he reached out to some of the Big XII schools to express interest in having them join the AAC. This is as much about the AAC surviving as the Big XII surviving. If the Big XII raids the AAC, then it will be a shambles with CUSA back fills or a merger with MWC to make a new WAC. So, Aresco should be doing this, he should be pro-active. He probably also reached out to ESPN and asked if we were to add schools from the Big XII how would that impact our TV contract? After all you don't want to add more mouths to feed and keep the same sized pie. I love it when thieves fall out.
