Report: Chiefs waiving Buechele

The Chiefs are waiving former SMU QB Shane Buechele, per

Buechele completed 37 of 55 passes for 422 yards, 3 TDs and 2 INTs in the preseason. He also had a game-winning rushing TD against the 49ers in Week 1.

Buechele played well in the pre-season; I think KC is trying to sneak him through waivers so he can be placed on the practise squad. There probably isn't much of a market for rookie back-up qbs.

I thought KC was a strange place for Buchelle to try and catch on considering they already have a firmly entrenched and capable backup in Chad Henne. There was going to be no way that Buchelle unseated Henne barring injury. This makes me think it had more to do with the lack of opportunity, basically the Hunt family throwing a beloved SMU alum a bone because no one else was knocking on his door.
Hopefully he surprised some people with his solid preseason play and will make someone's practice squad roster.

Do a lot of rookies stay on the practice squad for a while and eventually make the roster? I don’t follow the NFL at all.

They are hoping he makes it to their practice squad for sure. Someone will grab him for the practice squad, he showed too much in preseason.
