Defeated TCU 42-34

It’s not just that SMU whooped TCU in Fort Worth to retain their grandaddy’s heirloom in the probate fight for the iron skillet. It’s also that the Mustangs planted their flag on the Frogs at midfield.

My comments: For those who did not like Rice trying to plant the flag at midfield - the SMU W over TCU was amplified on social media and on regular media big time due to the post game antics. Many more know that SMU whipped TCU than would have been the case had everyone peacefully walked off the field. Not saying it was right - but that that is a fact (two non-top 25 teams playing usually does not get much coverage). The results of the game were amplified considerably when Outkick and Barstool pushed it out in the middle of the afternoon yesterday.

Some will look at the final score and might not come up with the word "whooped" ... but when walking out of the stadium yesterday, one thought that kept coming to mind was that SMU's win did not feel like an upset. The Mustangs deserved to win that game.

I agree. Many times in the past we have won a game thanks to some quirky events in a game or just plain ole luck. This team looked and played like a confident, solid, really good team. I watched the game with some TCU friends in their suite with a bunch of other TCU folks. They didn't like losing to SMU, but all told me they were impressed with how good our SMU team was.

We talked on the radio broadcast about how SMU did not have to go to gimmicks and trick plays, which many view as the move of a team that can not line up and simply run its normal offense and defense to win. The Mustangs played fairly straightforward on both sides of the ball, and were successful.

Also, PK, we're going to need some video of you strutting around in your friends' suite ... especially at the end of the game!

Hahaha. I was totally out numbered so I knew better than to do that. Plus, I was a guest and didn't have to sit out under the broiling sun like you did, so I chose to be a gracious guest and get to enjoy the suite again another time.

Beating TCU doesn't earn any more respect than beating La Tech. We just need both of those programs to go on and have strong seasons to make those road wins more impressive.
