Coaches' post-game exchange

Courtesy of The Athletic's Chris Vannini:

FORT WORTH, Texas — The drive from Dallas to Fort Worth features a statement at the midway point on the I-30 highway: “Pony Up Arlington,” the billboard reads, with a photo of SMU cornerback and Arlington native Jahari Rogers.

SMU has put these billboards up for a few years now, highlighting a local player in almost every area around the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. It’s a smart recruiting strategy, as the small private school located in the wealthiest part of Dallas tries to brand itself as the larger city’s college football team. Since becoming head coach in December 2017, Sonny Dykes, a son of Texas football, has hit the region hard.

But no billboard makes a statement quite like rolling over to Fort Worth and punching TCU football in the mouth like few others have. SMU beat the Horned Frogs 42-34 on Saturday and racked up 350 rushing yards, the second most allowed in Gary Patterson’s tenure as TCU’s head coach, going back to 2000. It’s the first time SMU has won two consecutive games at Amon G. Carter Stadium since 1983 and ’85, in the program’s pre-Death Penalty heyday.

In case you thought SMU’s renaissance was merely a blip and only the result of finding a fortunate transfer in quarterback Shane Buechele, Saturday should make you pay attention. That includes the Big 12 conference office.

“You kicked our [deleted],” Patterson told Dykes as the two shook hands at midfield after the game.

Also included was this note: "In Patterson’s 22 years as TCU’s head coach, only Oklahoma in 2019 rushed for more yards against his team, and this SMU team averaged a full yard per carry more than that Sooners team."

So Patterson told Sonny that SMU kicked TCU's [deleted], but then whined about SMU players saying the same thing?
What an admirable leader...
