I spent a little time reading some post game comments on Frogs O War and KillerFrogs, and it's pretty obvious to me that they view playing us much the same way that we view the UNT game. We/they get very little out of it if they win because it's expected, but the downside to a loss is pretty big. It got me thinking that there are actually a lot of one sided rivalries, especially with TX teams. Some of the more obvious ones are:
SMU/TCU - makes sense for SMU, but TCU fans likely view UT or Baylor as a more fitting one. The SMU/UH match-up seems more like an even sided natural one to me. Do SMU and Memphis view each other as mutual rivalries, or is that just another conference game? Not sure, but always seems hotly contested to me.
SMU/UNT - makes sense for UNT, not so much for SMU. Don't know who a "real' UNT rival is. UTSA maybe?
UT/OU/Tx Tech/A&M/Arkansas - definitely some good ones in here, but again some are one way for sure.
Anyway, not enough time to make a concise point here, but really just an interesting (to me) observation. Which other ones of note am I missing? Discuss if appropriate. Have a good week everyone, and see you on Saturday at 3!

I completely disagree. I understand TCU fans are dumber than a bag of door knobs. Few facts:
Looks similar: SMU vs UNT: 34-6 (85%) UT vs Kansas: 16-3 (84%)
Looks similar: SMU vs TCU: 51-42-7 (2 win streak for us) SMU vs Houston 21-13-1 (2 win streak) Baylor vs TCU 53-56-7 Baylor vs SMU 39-36-7
Other considerations: SMU has been in the top 25 more than TCU from 2019 to now. (14 weeks vs 1 week). You would have to look back to 2017 to get TCU ahead of us which arguably was one of their best season.

SMU vs TCU has been a long running series and those will usually feature a run by either team, which has been the case over the past 40 years in this series
Looking at the numbers, the SMU/TCU/Baylor series have generally been the most competitive and reality is that those 3 schools have more in common than any of us have with the larger public schools of the SWC. Rice could argue, at least for the earlier years of SWC history, that they belong in the discussion but I'm afraid they gave up competing once television took control of college football.

That's a BS comparison!!! SMU and TCU are all-time rivals in all sports. At one point this was one of the most important games in the country. We own the basketball series and up until recently owned the football series too. UNT was historically a DI-AA program (FCS) and has never been competitive with SMU in any sport aside from when we have been terrible. SMU and TCU are rivals. SMU v UNT makes sense because it is a local game of interest but there is no rivalry and there never has been.

I’m sure SMU fans thought the same about TCU back in the 70s and 80s when the Ponies went what? 18 years without a loss against the Froggies?

Over the history of the SMU/TCU rivalry, SMU once won 15 consecutive games whereas TCU has never won more than 7 consecutive games and they didn't accomplish that until SMU had to rebuild from the death penalty. Appears this is once again a competitive series but TCU and every other school in Texas will do everything they can to slow the momentum they can see building at SMU.

Had to look it up. SMU has taken a beating from our old SWC foes in the post death penalty era:
Rice has actually fared better against SMU than TCU has in the post death penalty era having won 8 straight from 1989-1996. Houston never beat SMU more than 6 consecutive times.
Texas Tech has beaten us 15 consecutive times since the death penalty
SMU is winless (one tie) vs Texas A$M in our 14 post death penalty meetings
Baylor has beaten SMU 13 consecutive times since the death penalty
And then there is Texas who since the break up of the SWC has refused to play us after beating SMU 8 consecutive games, 7 of those coming after the death penalty
