We gotta lot of Cinci fans

Postby Terry Webster » Tue Oct 05, 2021 8:54 am

Spent some time over at a restaurant by UC last night. We have a whole bunch of Cinci fans pulling for us right now since we are the only quality opponent left on their schedule. They really want us 10-0 when we come up here in November (as do I of course.) They are really nervous that their strength of schedule is going to keep them out of the playoff.

10-0 Ponies would be ranked somewhere around #10-14, while UC could be top 4 if they keep winning.

Would be an incredible atmosphere.

I'm pulling for them. Want them to be undefeated when we knock them off in their house and take the playoff spot. It will help our strength of schedule.

Of we knock them off up here in the regular season, we would get them in Dallas for the championship. If not, we would play them up here in December.

Cincy has to hope they can play and beat SMU twice and that those 2 losses are our only losses...and they probably need TCU and La Tech to win out as well. That's the only chance they have of being considered a Final Four team. Bama and Georgia are virtual locks already (even if they lose 1-2 games this season) and Cincy still has to get past 2 more P5 champs so I just don't see that happening. Cincy goes 13-0 and two 1-2 loss teams from P5 will be considered stronger by the committee. Can almost guarantee that's the way it plays out.

It would also help them for UH to show up to their game 10-2, having already lost to TT and losing to us. They might have a shot to be in the top 25 if that were to happen, even though they really play nobody outside of us for the rest of the year.

Absolutely. Pull for everyone we have played and beaten to go on to have successful seasons

I saw part of the ND-Cincinnati game, and the reality is that both teams are good, neither team is great, certainly not elite level. ND has a terrible O-line this year, no clear no 1 QB, and their offensive coordinator seems to be a bright guy but is way under qualified and with limited experience to have that role at ND. They have real NFL-caliber guys on their defense though. Brian Kelly steers a shift ably and with stability but is not the coach to get ND to win a national title. Point is that this Cincy team would not have even beaten last year’s version of ND. I think Cincy can be a top 10 team which is a huge credit to them - even in a down year of traditional powerhouses like Ohio State and Clemson, cincy is not a top four team and wouldn’t even be top four in the SEC. That’s nothing against them - they’re just not a top four team.

I do think we can beat them and hope that’s enough to get us into a NY6 bowl if we’re undefeated. That’s our ceiling.
