Mordecai Added To Maxwell Award Watch List
PHILADELPHIA (MFC/SMU) – Tanner Mordecai has been added to the final version of the Maxwell Award Watch List as announced by the Maxwell Football Club on Wednesday. The award is presented annually to the outstanding player in college football.
Mordecai joins Ulysses Bentley IV and Reggie Roberson, Jr., who were announced as selections to the preseason edition of the list.
He is also a member of the Davey O'Brien Award Watch List and has twice been named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 20, Sept. 6).
Mordecai leads the nation in passing TDs (24) and points responsible for (150), while his 180.1 passer rating is eighth. The 24 TDs are five more than any other player and tied for sixth in a season at SMU. He has at least four TDs in each game this season, and the seven against ACU broke the SMU single-game record.
The Mustangs are 5-0 for the third consecutive season for only the second time in program history (1981-83).
Semifinalists for the award will be announced Nov. 1, while the three finalists will be unveiled Nov. 22. The winner of the 2021 Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 9. The formal presentation of the award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala on March 11, 2022.
