Alltime SMU starting OffenseI can pick few
WR :Sanders and sutton RB: ED/Zach QB: Don Mustang from India
Re: Alltime SMU starting OffenseNot sure what is the question.
But, how can one consider anyone other than Doak Walker? He won the Heisman Trophy. He is the only Heisman Trophy in SMU history. He is the absolute base of any team consideration. And he played when players had to go both on offense an defense,
Re: Alltime SMU starting OffenseHe’s asking us to name the best SMU offensive players by position. Sort of a first team list.
We already argued QB, so I’ll go Dandy Don. RB’s, have to have Walker and Dickerson. Receivers we argued. I do like #23 and Emmanuel Tolbert there. Give me some Dave Richards on the OL. And the great Clement Fox at tight end. What a blocker he was.
Re: Alltime SMU starting OffenseForrest Gregg on OL. Ray Schoenke who played like 20 years in NFL as a guard.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Alltime SMU starting OffenseMan, this is a tough one. Hard to do in different eras. But compared to how good they were against THEIR competition, I'll try:
QB1: Don QB2: Lance QB3: GG RB1: Eric Dickerson RB2: Doak Walker RB3: Dupard OL: Gregg, Richards, who else? that's hard ...Beachum ..Hellestrae). WR: Sanders, Sutton, Levias, (either Proche/Quinn/??) TE: Fox/?? (wish we had Grant for 3 years, he might be on the top of the list, possibly Granson up there too) Found this interesting: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_S ... _NFL_Draft
Re: Alltime SMU starting OffenseTE Oscar Roan. He was an All American.
Re: Alltime SMU starting OffenseRaymond Berry, Kyle Rote, Gary Hammond, Mike Richardson and Chuck Hixson shouldn't be ignored. No list should not include Jerry LeVias. Interesting, how many players had stellar college careers and so, so pro careers, others like Berry had OK college careers yet is in the NFL Hall of Fame.
Re: Alltime SMU starting Offense
Wasn't he also a 2-sport guy who played bball as well?
Re: Alltime SMU starting OffenseYes. He was an emergency addition to the basketball team his senior year. He transferred to SMU from UCLA so he could play football. At that time the Bruins had the elite hoops program in US. Coach Prewitt asked him if he played. Roan responded, a little bit at UCLA.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Alltime SMU starting OffenseOn the O line would also consider Richard (though he went by his common nickname that shall not pass the censor) Hightower. All American center for Doak Walker.
Re: Alltime SMU starting Offense[deleted] Hightower. Hey, you were right.
