IIRC today is early signing day. Are we signing any recruits? any announcements? any transfers?

According to SMU football’s Instagram it would appear that Rhett Larson from College Station, Dylan Frazier the DL from McKinney, and Jacob Waller the OL from Arlington have signed so far.

Looks like we made out fairly well given the circumstances.
Pierre Goree
Dylan Frazier
Isaiah Smith
Jayden Lawton
Trey Fite
Jacob Waller
Kevin Henry Jennings
Rhett Larson
Fite was a late get along with Henry Jennings. We kept most of our players and only lost 4 to TCU. Of course 3 of those 4 were our highest rated recruits, but as much as that bruises our ego it's not going to make or break our team. Hopefully we can add some players that were previously committed to Miami and some more from the transfer portal to make up for the losses. Jennings is a big get for PR purposes as we really need to extend the olive branch to SOC and all of Dallas. Hopefully he becomes a player for us too as he appears to be a late bloomer.

I agree. Seems like a solid class for a late coach change. Hopefully we can add a few transfers and be right back in the AAC mix next season.

Can't win without the big uglies. Glad to see we got some good ones. Welcome to SMU.

So, if you wipe your memory of what we lost, it turns out the class isn't that bad...
- Lawton is the highest rated corner on our roster.
- Isaiah Smith would be around the same level a Jelin Samuels for the top rated prospect on the roster at DE.
- Fite is around the same level as Jayden Jones below them. Probably 4th because Jayden's offers were a little better.
- If I project Frazier as a DT, he is probably the second highest rated prospect behind Michael Williams and ahead of Levelston.
- Weller and Larson at OL are both upper middle of the pack in our OL. Not the best, but not a DITR.
- Henry-Jennings at QB of course is way behind Mordecai and Stone, but is a better prospect than players like Brown were.
- Goree is the same level of recruit as NWO. Very highly rated.
So, honestly, no reaches and a pretty solid class so far. We improved at corner, DE, DT, and S, and added depth at QB and OL.
It will be interesting to see how we fill things in with the portal and in the late signing period as the coaching staff has the chance to work on some players.

We definitely needed help in the secondary. He should help. Still need some more help and I think Coach Lashlee will be getting some good players for the next signing day coming up soon.

Several on-line sources list Goree as committed, or in some cases, signed ... but SMU didn't announce him.
https://smumustangs.com/news/2021/12/15 ... ntral.aspxBut then Goree retweeted a congratulatory post with a photo taken Wednesday in which he's wearing an SMU hat and shirt. Looks promising.

Will feel better about these early signings if/when Goree signs. He's a big part of this class at a position of need. I would hope Coach Naivar has reached out to him
