OK we have a group of BIG MEN that are available to play next year. Some you have never seen. GREAT. Along with the good recruiting class of SPEED that we signed this year - We are going in the right direction.
We need two 300 Lb d-tackels out of the JUCO ranks to sign this year and then restock with the likes of Shaver and the BIG and QUICK kid from Berkner.
I am really liking the way Bennett is working to build this program. He knew that linemen take a year ( red shirt ) so he got a big group last year. Typically, skill players do not need the redshirt year and we got that this year.
Call me a HOMER - BEAT TEXAS TECH
40% linemen. Lets Go S-M-U

speaking of big dudes, what do you think, does a guy with Vincent Chase's talent play next year or redshirt?

I think we need him on the field. We definitely need any big, talented men on the field.

Its a tough call. Not to get carried away, but I would have to think a guy who had offers from OU, Nebraska, LSU, Florida etc could be a real contributor at SMU from Day 1, especially against WAC competition. We'll see.

I agree. If the advance billing is accurate, he might be just too talented to keep off the field.

WE WERE 0-12 LAST YEAR
We need upgrades at most positions, including TE.
I strongly suspect Vincent Chase is the best TE on our squad, so play him now.
Also, find ways to use Jessie Henderson NOW. We need his speed.
MM65, you are a true optimist....be optimistic that Bennett can continue to recruit talented players..

1965, what makes you so quick to say that Chase should be redshirted?? I find it hard to believe that our highest rated recruit who plays a position that we dont have a sure starter at should be redshirted, especially on a team that went 0-12 last year. He's already a strong, big kid and IMO, will probably start next season.

Most freshman (not just athletes) need a year to adjust to college life.
Why risk burning him out early with the pressure of being a starter in
Div. 1A football, and if he's not a starter don't waste a year just using
him sparingly or in special situations?
