Well deserved and probably long overdue. He put up some numbers that just seem unimaginable now:

Long overdue. Putt was an intense competitor. He worked out like a fiend I remember watching him in the weight room and wondered how any human could push himself so hard.

Despite his intensity, he was a friendly and gentle man off the field. He smiled a lot and had kind words to those around him. One never felt intimated around him off the field

But on the field, thanks goodness I didn't have to try to block him

And folks never broke his tackles!

agreed ponyte...Putt was good people.

Greatest memory was his 100(+) yard dash to the end zone with an interception at the Cotton Bowl versus Tulane. The last 20 yards were misery, and he collapsed in the end zone and on the sideline after...but got up and in for the next defensive series.

A true leader in every way.

That TD against Tulane was something to behold. He and his family have been important figures in Big Spring for many years. Didn't he famously appear on the cover of Texas Monthly magazine face up and eyes closed posed in a casket? I think the story was about the death of the SWC? Foggy memory
