Coaching Wise, What do you Think we Have Here?

Postby GHammond » Thu Oct 06, 2022 6:40 pm

Young guy, solid resume, offensive mind, inexperienced, hoping he grows into this gig…..but as of now, what do you think we have here? A Ron Meyer type who is firery and can recruit…a Cavan guy? Bennett? 5 years from now, what do you think we will be saying about Rhett?

SMU hired a rookie and we have to endure rookie mistakes. Hopefully he learns from his mistakes.

He has been head coach for all of 5 games. Give him a chance.

Play calling is the easy part especially since he’s been a high level OC.

It’s all about managing people. OC to HC is going from drawing schemes on a whiteboard all day to having to manage 110 alpha males (who are now being paid more than the bottom quartile or your support staff), half of whom are transfers.

And all of us who want to be critical of his play calling and decisions have the benefit of 20/20 hindsight. Our guys convert those 4th downs and catch those wide open balls they dropped and win that game and we might be laughing about having hired a riverboat gambler

We need to give this new system a chance to jell. Liquid jello is not so good but give it a day in the fridge.

Also, another year of NIL action will help the talent. I think we still need bigger linemen. Of Course!!!!

Rhett is aggressive and I kind of like it. He wants to win.

I certainly think he is a better coach than Meyer or Cavan or Bennett. But I hope we don't have to wait 5 years to find out. After all Lashlee is not inheriting an empty roster like some of our coaches have in the past.

Better coach than Meyer?

Everything takes time but I'm sick of being 4th place in the AAC for a decade.

Also, this NIL crap really throws a wrench into things. Sure we might get better players but I think it'll cause other coach-headache-inducing problems.

He has the most humble unassuming demeanor that I have seen in a head coach. Of course, humility is a good thing in general but not how I would describe most of the top coaches.

...upon further review and having slept on it, I think he has the potential to be a solid, winning coach. I was at the MD and tcwho games, and when you throw in Wed night, it’s frustrating. Did not expect to be 2-3. Let’s regroup and smash Navy, and with the next 3 out of 4 at home, will expect some success. BEAT Navy!!

Coach Lash is not much different than Sonny demeanor-wise

See broken headphones fury in UCF game

I see him as not constant angry, but a guy you don't want to pizz off
