Many programs struggle with attendance, especially during under-performing years. Let's see if this initiative draws fans to Palo Alto.

Ala Russ Potts in 1978, sell blocks at a huge discount or free to convenience stores with gasoline pumps. Two free tickets with a purchase of at least 5 gallons, and 4 tickets with 10 gallons. Might make people feel better about the high gas prices. Put a Mustang in your tank.

Adaptable to other business types.

Russ Potts was a master at bringing in the crowds. He once oversold SMU vs Baylor is Texas Stadium. Many had no seats.

lol, at one point Stanford Stadium was a horseshoe

They enclosed the stadium and capacity was 85k as late as 2005, when they reduced seating to 50k

Sounds like they should reduce it even further to 35k-40k range

and I personally think their strategy will not succeed. Rather than discount ticket prices in an attempt to fill their 50k stadium, they should reduce stadium size and increase ticket prices to those few games they know miles in advance will have high demand (in Stanford’s case, ND & Cal)

They didn't enclose they built a new smaller stadium in nine months without the track surrounding it. But a lot less friendly environment as they locked up the stadium between games as previously it was open, and people would walk or run the steps.

I didn’t say they enclosed it recently, i said initially it was a horseshoe that was enclosed.

I think that is correct.

We had a play either last year or the year before where we won on an intentional tip from Rice to Roberson (or vice versa).

Thanks for the link

“Seating capacity was originally 60,000, with a 66-row, U-Shaped structure second only to the Yale Bowl in size at the time. In 1925, 10,200 seats were added to the stadium, nearly enclosing the horseshoe while still keeping the overall height of the facility intact”

As i posted, enclosure of the horseshoe wasn’t recent.

Saw that. Interesting approach. If you're a current season ticket holder, do you get upset if the school gives freebies to others as bait to sign up for next year?
