FIFY. No need to list new (UTSA) or third-rate (UNT) programs that were never in the SWC.

Who can name the mascots of the SWC FR teams before FR were eligible to play varsity ball? I can only remember a few but SMU was the Colts. Casey Ortez was our "Joe Namath wannabe" QB my FR year. He had an interesting but short and tragic life. I remember Casey and Randy Scoggins (who lived on my FR dorm floor) hung around together. Not sure what ever happened to Scoggins. At any rate, I think Baylor was the Cubs, Rice the Owlettes, Texas the Shorthorns, TCU the Tadpoles but I really can't remember. Some of the older guys who were Colts should remember

Can't remember if TCU was the Tadpoles or the Wogs. Both sound familiar

Houston was not a member when I went to SMU. There was the Big 8 to the north and there were only 8 teams in the SWC...SMU, TCU, Baylor, Tech, Arkansas, Texas, A&M & Rice
