Sorry to see Goffney go. I had really high hopes for him at SMU.

I thought he had a chance to be a player for us but the WR room is packed with talent. Hope he finds a good fit somewhere

Had no idea Donald Clay was still on the team. Hasn’t heard him mentioned in a while

Yes, especially now that five-star TCU transfer Jordan Hudson just cancelled his Auburn official visit. Looks like a get for the Ponies.

I think Clay and Ike both were gone last season, but they hadn't officially gone into the portal yet

Add Pierre Goree to the list of players looking for another opportunity. Had to figure this could happen. Hope he finds a school that also has a track program

I hope he doesn't. He needs to go where he can compete. SMU decided in 2004 that we are no longer that place.

He wasn’t a great football player. A project of sorts. May be a world-class-quality track star.

To my knowledge he was given no real help. What was he doing? Training track with his mom or something driving to meets by himself meanwhile they still wanted him to still do spring football? I believe that's pretty close to the truth.
Kinda like when SMU signed world junior champ Margus Hunt because they promised a track team. Then that didn't happen.
In summary, 12 scholarships men's track. 12 scholarships women's lacrosse. Already have facilities for both sports. SMU makes the obvious hard. Too expensive? ...meanwhile we have posts on the Other Sports forum about our high national ranking intramural lacrosse team.

Dude...gimme a break. Your numbers are awful and inaccurate. I'm only commenting because you're normally decent.
We had to add Multiple Women's Teams to comply with Title IX AND try to scrape together survival money for our two revenue generating sports. That led to to Mens Track going away.
It was that, men's soccer or mens swimming. Those were the options. Our men's track teams excelled in sports not anywhere well known to the casual person. Hammer throw, etc do not move the needle in our recruitment. You act like we were excelling in 100m runs.
I went to school and was friends with both the men and women's track teams. The vast majority spoke very different languages than me.
It was terrible sitting the Letterman's room, early morning, having Copeland tell us that the men's track team was getting cut. Say what you want about Copeland, but he cried during this announcement.
In summation, if you want to throw rocks then get your sheet straight. Did you notice our women's equestrian national champions lately? They came from that moment.
Sometimes good things can come from bad things.
