I'm surprised that the OU game is not on a more prominent network.

That's not a network at all. Is that actually correct?

That is hysterical. SMU is such a ratings drag, even a high profile opponent like OU can't get them on a network. I wonder when the last time OU had a game that wasn't televised on a network.

They were on ESPN+ last year. On "PPV" in 2021. Had a game not broadcast (according to their website) in 2020. Same in 2019.

All of the above...was their week 2 game.

This is true, and aren't these assignments conference-controlled anyway?

The Big XII wants to do favors for neither of OU or SMU.

Home game for OU so it's an opportunity for ESPN to sell some subscriptions to their t-shirt fans

Conferences, and Universities even to a lesser extent, have little sway in Network/Timing. (That is a part of contract negotiations up front eg. who gets the FROR and on timing.) That said, the Conference and University can "ask" for, commonly, timing and sometimes it is accommodated. Rarely, if ever, on the network, however.
