From The Athletic's Nate Taylor:
Buechele, who is in his third year in Reid’s offense, appears to have been elevated on the Chiefs’ depth chart after his impressive performance last week against the Arizona Cardinals. On Saturday, Buechele was the quarterback who replaced Patrick Mahomes. In a rare chance to perform behind the starting offensive line, Buechele made the most of his opportunity, completing all 10 of his passes for 105 yards. He also scrambled to his left, running for a 15-yard touchdown.
In the past two practices, Buechele has been the first quarterback to lead the second-team offense. At this point, Buechele’s roster spot seems to secure.
“It’s been really neat watching him grow, coming in last year and not knowing him,” offensive coordinator Matt Nagy said Tuesday of Buechele. “The offseason and the preseason games are all about opportunity. Coach has a great way of just going through those types of battles.
“The competition brings out the best in everybody. You see that with Shane. You love being able to see guys have success when they, behind the scenes, have put in all this work. He’s played well.”
