VIDEO: meet assistant AD/general manager J.R. Sandlin

Postby PonyPride » Wed Jun 12, 2024 1:35 am

VIDEO: new SMU assistant AD/general manager J.R. Sandlin sat down with PonyFans.com to discuss his journey to the Hilltop, the primary objectives in his role (GMs are new in college football), his views about recruiting high school players vs. college transfers ... and whether J.R. Sandlin the recruiter would have pursued J.R. Sandlin the former college tight end.

(Yes, there is an air conditioner in the background — apologies for that.)

PonyFans.com ... is really the premier place for Mustang talk on the Web.

Some at OU were really upset to lose this guy. Hope he's as good as advertised.

Great interview, and looks like a great hire. Really like the part about how he was intrigued by the buzz around SMU right now and the opportunity he sees.

Totally agree. Great interview, and he seems to have that "it" energy. Hope he can push our recruiting to another level.

Also, was anyone else surprised when he said that SEC schools average 9 full-time recruiting/personnel staff ... and that Oklahoma only has 3? If that's the case, they could fall fast when they start competing against Georgia, Bama and LSU on the recruiting trail, as well as on the field.

Excellent interview. Thanks for sharing.

I like J.R. and his experience with football seems to be the focus of the interview. As Assistant AD and General Manager (for all things Recruiting), he is impressive.

However, I would have like to hear about his impact on BB and non-revenue sports. I am assuming as Asst. AD, he will oversee the recruiting efforts of all our sports.
