SMU Athletics Surpasses $125 Million Goal for ACC Competitiveness Campaign
DALLAS (SMU) - SMU Athletics today announced that it has surpassed its ambitious $125 million goal for the ACC Competitiveness Campaign. This monumental achievement comes on the heels of the department's record-setting year, having raised $159 million in cash and commitments for fiscal year 2024.
Launched shortly after SMU's September 1st announcement of its upcoming move to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), the ACC Competitiveness Campaign was designed to bolster the university's athletic programs, ensuring they remain competitive at the highest levels of collegiate sports and effectively transition to the ACC.
A recent $2 million commitment from Matt Fleeger, class of 1987, and Candee Richmond Fleeger, class of 1986, and the Fleeger Family Foundation played a pivotal role in reaching this goal. The $2 million commitment includes $1.2 million earmarked for the Weber End Zone Complex and $800,000 dedicated to closing the gap to reach the $125 million target for the ACC Competitiveness Campaign.
"We are deeply grateful to Matt Fleeger and the Fleeger Family Foundation for their extraordinary generosity," said Rick Hart, SMU's Director of Athletics. "Their commitment not only propels us to our campaign goal but also significantly enhances our facilities and resources, positioning SMU Athletics for sustained success in the ACC."
This landmark achievement underscores the collective effort of SMU alumni, donors, and supporters who have rallied to elevate Mustang Athletics. The funds raised will be instrumental in ensuring SMU's student-athletes can compete at the highest levels and achieve excellence on and off the field.
"I'm thrilled with the future direction of SMU Athletics," said Matt Fleeger. "There's never been a better time to be a Mustang, and I'm proud to support our transition to the ACC."
While the initial goal has been reached, philanthropic support for the ACC Competitiveness Campaign remains a top department priority. To find out more about how you can support SMU Athletics' transition to the ACC, please visit smu.edu/acc-ready.
On the heels of a school-record eight-championship season and set for its inaugural season in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), SMU is riding a surge of momentum heading into 2024-25.
SMU has already set a new season ticket sales record for Ford Stadium and is on pace to more than double the amount of season tickets sold for the upcoming year.
To continue the momentum, SMU Athletics invites you to become part of the Game Changer program, by selling season tickets within your network. As SMU moves to the ACC, we need you to introduce SMU to your friends and colleagues. Signing up is easy! You'll be paired with a ticket sales executive and you will be helping us fill Ford Stadium this fall.
