Smith Makes Jet Award Preseason Watch List
OMAHA, Neb. (SMU) – SMU senior Brashard Smith has been named to the 2024 Jet Award preseason watch list, the Jet Award Foundation announced on Wednesday.
The Jet Award, named in honor of Heisman Trophy winner and College Football Hall of Famer Johnny "The Jet" Rodgers, is in its 14th year and honors the most outstanding return specialist in college football.
Smith is set to enter his first year at SMU as a transfer from Miami. He was named to the 2023 All-ACC Second Team as a specialist after returning 20 kickoffs for 423 yards and a touchdown last season. In his three years with the Hurricanes, the running back tallied 1,946 all-purpose yards with six touchdowns.
The Richmond Heights, Florida, native earned Athlon Sports preseason third-team All-America and first-team All-ACC accolades as a specialist.
The award will culminate with the presentation at the Jet Award Gala on April 10, 2025. The winner of the 2024 Jet Award will be selected by a distinguished panel of voters including media members from the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and former winners of the Jet Award along with two of the founders, Johnny Rodgers and William Reed.
The preseason watch list features 16 standout players from across the nation who have demonstrated exceptional abilities in the return game. Smith is one of three ACC players who earned a spot on the list, and he looks to become the first Mustang to win the award.
