OFFICIAL: SMU vs DUKE Predictions & Roll Call

Postby ALEX LIFESON » Mon Oct 21, 2024 7:37 am

Yuuuuuuge game for both teams. SMU and Duke are 6-1 heading into the 8th game of the year. Prime Time 7:00 kickoff on the ACC Network. The ACC Network, will be broadcasting live all day from the Duke campus, just as they did at Stanford last week. The coverage SMU is getting from the ACC Network.... is priceless. The postgame coverage, with interviews with Rhett and our players, is a pinch me...is this real moment. They also are allowed into our dressing room before and after the games. Back to the game. Duke has a really good defense and so so offense, run by Rhett protege' Jonathan Brewer. Duke will have a better home crowd environment, than we witnessed at Stanford. What's your score and who is going? Go Mustangs!

I thought about traveling for this one but why pay to go to an event where I don't want anyone to lose? That said, anyone going: stick around for Bobby Hurley returning to Cameron with his Arizona State team for a charity game against the Blue Devils on Sunday evening, if you can.

I have a two-part prediction, sorry. First, if Duke sticks with the statue* named Maalik Murphy and his usually-inaccurate-but-admittedly-cannon-of-an-arm? SMU 35, Duke 10. Second, if Duke plays backup QB Henry Belin? SMU 35, Duke 31.

* I'm not kidding. Dude I think tried to run once back in the Northwestern win and tripped over his own feet. He has not run, even a scramble, since. It's preposterous how easily it enables every D to just drop back and defend. Starting RB Star Thomas is a beast, though.

Is there any talk of a change at QB?

On dukebasketballreport.com, yes; but also a recognition that it’s hard to argue with 6-1. From Diaz or Brewer, not a peep.

Ponies 37-17. JDR bounces back after last week with a PR for TD.

This is a tough one. We had a long commute to Palo Alto, return home late then have another long commute to Durham.

If we play our best we win it:
Mustangs 42
Devils 24

If we play like we did the second half at Stanford:
Mustangs 17
Devils 24

I have to edit my prediction:
Mustangs 42
Devils 17

I see a lot of people predicting Duke to score 24. That seems like a lot for an offense like that. Not saying Duke can't win, but I don't think they are going to do it by scoring 24 against us.

30-13 Mustangs

He has -54 rushing yards on the season with 1 carry for positive yardage -- 2 yards against Northwestern. On the plus side, he has only been sacked 8 times in 7 games.

Yeah those 2 yards he had a little green in front of him and tripped himself up. True about the sacks—he doesn’t zip the ball out super fast usually but the clock in your head while you’re watching him almost never goes off either. Sometimes it’s a well-targeted throw, sometimes it feels like DJU. Regardless, it is always a heat-seeking missile.
