Brent Venables' seat is getting very warm

I saw something that said Venables will probably be fired if OU doesn't become bowl-eligible. If that's the case, we need to cheer for OU the rest of the season because I can easily see OU going after RL.

Don't even suggest that, highlander!

A few Arkansas fans are getting antsy over their coach and RLs name has been mentioned.

I always thought Arkansas would be the most likely spot Lashlee would desire if he bails on SMU

That would be the 2nd time they would have stolen our coach. Incidentally, I don't believe we ever formally thanked them for the first one. But this one would hurt.

If we make it to the ACC Championship game, RL will never have to buy a beer in Dallas ever again. He'll be a legendary coach here. If he goes to OU or UA, his seat will be hot the first loss they suffer. Who needs that? In 5 years he gets fired and then has to coach high school or be someone's offensive coordinator. I'd be more afraid that the Cowgirls would want him.

No question that OU is a college football blue blood, but who the heck wants to live in Norman when you already live in Dallas. Presumably RL lives in HP?
Also, for Arkansas, you have OU, sans their trophies and the blueblood label.
Both will struggle to be relevant in the SEC. Make SMU relevant in the ACC year in and year out, and have a statue built for you. Before we were in a P4 conference, I would understand it. I don’t get the allure as much anymore, at least not with regards to Arkansas.

I've been told we have a lot of that.

If he goes anywhere it's Arkansas. Period.
Pay the man and he stays

I think Arkansas already has its next HC already on the staff: Bobby Petrino. He is by far the most successful UArk coach in the last 30+ years. What he did to get fired the first time will be overlooked now in the name of winning.

I have a hard time seeing Arkansas taking SMU head coach for a second time. First go around was an unadulterated train wreck. But others will come calling. Please keep RL here on the Hilltop.

Plus, HOME. I have no idea how many of Lashlee's relatives and old school friends still live in Northwest AR, but the area is his home. He grew up dreaming of being Razorback QB.

SMU just needs to offer him enough money. Arkansas and Auburn are great schools and locations, but they are coach killer jobs, especially in the upgraded SEC. At SMU, he could get a 10 year guaranteed contract. If he enjoys Dallas and we offer him enough money, it is a pretty easy decision.

We've been having this discussion now ever since JJ started to win. Of course, it beats losing....
For the first time we might actually have a hand to compete with such schools, but it isn't based on money, as we've shown the capacity to pay ever since we gave June an NFL sized salary. No, we offer Rhett something we couldn't until this year.
The chance to win a National Championship.
Yes, OU is OU and Arky is Arky, and on and on, but you take a look at the SEC schedule and tell me you think OU is going to have a better chance of making the playoffs than we do, or any school in the SEC for that matter. That's only going to become more pronounced in an era where even Vanderbilt is becoming competitive.
With the right guy we have nowhere to go but up - nowhere, and I don't see Pitt, BC, Virgnia, and Syracuse becoming the next Tennessee, A&M, UGA, 'bama, and on and on and on.
Stay and win a National Championship, Rhett. We will match any financial offer, give you an easier road there, and Dallas beats Norman, Starkville, Oxford, and I'd argue even Austin. Become a legend in a place starving for one.
