From SMUMustangs.com:

SMU Continues To Rise In Polls

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU Football saw a big move up in both major polls on Sunday after an impressive showing on Homecoming this past Saturday, a 48-25 win against unbeaten No. 18 Pitt in Ford Stadium.

SMU moved up seven spots in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll, coming in at 13th. In the US LBM Coaches Poll, the Mustangs climbed up five spots to 15th.

The No. 13 ranking the AP poll is the highest SMU has been since 1985.

The Mustangs were one of four ACC teams to be included in both polls, joining Miami, Clemson and Pittsburgh.

This marks the fifth straight week SMU has appeared in both polls.

SMU's 5-0 start in conference play is a first for a team jumping into a Power-4/5 conference from a Group of Five in their first season, no other team has started 2-0.

The Mustangs have now started 5-0 in conference play for a second straight year, the first time in program history since the 1947 and 1948 seasons.

SMU has a bye this week and will return to action on Nov. 16 when it hosts Boston College at Ford Stadium.

The even crazier part is, we can lose one of the final 3 games and still head to Charlotte. Just can’t drop 2 out of 3 due to tie breakers with us beating Louisville, and Louisville beating Clemson. Same goes for Miami. They can also drop a game. So at this point, unless either SMU or Miami drop two games, we are facing each other in the title game.

We need to bring it for these two home games and not put anything to risk going to Charlottesville.

To me, Pitt falling ONLY to 23 is very telling. In years past when we would beat a team that was 15-25, they would immediately fall OUT of the t25. Like Louisville a few weeks ago. It was as if the rankers were saying, "well if you lose to SMU, you must not be near as good as we thought you were". But with Pitt falling only 5 places after an absolute BLOWOUT loss, to me that says getting blown out by SMU is no longer shameful.

Man, really wish we could had a chance to replay that BYU game. Was right there for the taking.

Interested to see where the CFP Poll will be.

Regardless, just happy to see us as a top 15 team for the first time in my life. Unbelievable stuff.

Pretty remarkable to think SMU might eclipse Georgia for a playoff berth under any scenario but I will be pulling for Ga Tech when they play their rivalry game against Georgia. If Georgia beats Tennessee I will be pulling for Vandy to upset Tennessee in their rivalry game. I will also pull for Miss State to win the Egg Bowl rivalry game against Ole Miss and Auburn to upset Bama. It's fun to have a whole new level of interest in those games.

With only Miami as a team ahead losing, and Ole Miss beating Georgia, I suspected we would get jumped by Ole Miss. More and more it’s looking like the sec and b10 will have four teams each. I think that would be truly regrettable.

Now that you are an ACC team living in an overlapping SEC footprint, it makes for some interesting and easy-to-pull-for games at the end of the season between Clemson/SC, FSU/Fla, GT/UGA, Louisville/Ky. I feel like the ACC schools have a shot in each of those games and it could help with the "narrative" at the end of the season, which may be important when at-large teams are being selected.

The ultimate shocker would be for FSU to beat Florida. Years ago when SMU was having one of it's best "post death penalty" seasons and needed just one more win to become bowl eligible, we lost to an 0-10 TCU game to end the season. Anything can happen in rivalry games. Both my kids went to Clemson so I always pull for the Tigers in that game, but do have a lot of SC friends from the years I lived in Charleston. All in for the ACC!
