Smith Named Honorable Mention For Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Player Of The Week

TYLER, Texas (SPORTyler/SMU) – SMU running back Brashard Smith has been named as an honorable mention for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week, the organization announced on Tuesday.

Smith had 68 yards on the ground with a score against Cal, while adding 66 yards receiving and a touchdown.

His first score of the game came in the first quarter by way of a five-yard rush. The touchdown extended the Mustangs' lead to 14-0 and marked his 14th rushing score of the year.

Later in the game he added a 23-yard receiving touchdown that stretched the SMU lead to 31-6 in the fourth.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.

The nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or currently playing at Texas D1 four-year college.

In addition, the organization also awards player of the week honors to individuals across the state with standout performances on a given week.

SMU is set to face off with Clemson in the ACC Championship on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. The game will be aired nationally on ABC.
